Amanda really wants this house. Why? Because of the fireplace. It reminds her of when she was young with her father. And maybe it can help her get what she really wants. A delightful Christmas short story that will warm the heart and make you believe in the magic of this time of year.
Parents and Educators: like all of my stories and books, I include study guide information and education resources. There is a list of Words to Know for kids to use in their own writing, which I give some prompt ideas in Write Your Own. Of course, there are discussion questions to help with understanding and further sparking of a child’s imagination.
Ramblings and Dedication included with the story:
Welcome to Christmas 2023!
Since my kids were little, I’ve written a Christmas story for each of them. Most weren’t about Christmas, but were something of interest to them. Just wait for the Oddish Questors Christmas story!
Anyway, one year my daughter wasn’t feeling the magic of Christmas. And as happens, there was suddenly a story called Amanda’s Christmas. Authors, you’ll understand. No, the story didn’t really just appear by magic. But I couldn’t tell you where the idea came or even how long it took to write (type). I have no idea what shaped the story. Maybe the elves actually did it instead of shoes one night (Oh, the Oddish Questors have that story also).
When I gave this to her at Christmas she loved it. Read it several times. Later, she told me it was her favorite and drew me a picture. Yup, same picture that’s on the cover here.
For Christmas 2023, I hope everyone has a magical time and this story adds to that magic.
