Logline for your manuscript
I wanted to share a writing resource with everyone. I created a GPT to help craft a logline. This is intended to be a simple and friendly chat to help you create your own logline for a story you are working on or planning. This is a great tool to use in the classroom with students to help them before they start writing.
What is a logline?
A logline is that 1 sentence that sums up a manuscript. It can help focus the story in your mind as you write and present an idea of what it’s about to potential readers. A good logline gives an overview of a story without taking long to tell and without giving away everything that happens. It’s meant to entice potential readers.
For example, a logline for Stranger Things – When a young boy disappears, his mother, a police chief, and his friends must confront terrifying supernatural forces in order to get him back in a small Midwestern town in the 1980s.
And one of my favorites for Big Bang Theory – A woman who moves into an apartment across from two brilliant, but socially awkward physicists, shows them how little they know about life outside of the laboratory.
I used common TV shows that most everyone should know about so we can talk on the same level.
For writers it’s the same. This logline can help focus you with your writing, and also provide an easy way to advertise your book after it is written. You want to hook someone so they pick up your book and read the back cover. Or stop scrolling through lists and click to see your book details.
When you tell someone the logline for your story, you want them to react with, “Oh, that sounds interesting. Tell me more.” Then you know you have the right reader.
Story Crafter – Logline GPT
I have worked on creating a GPT that helps a writer create a logline based on their idea for a manuscript. Or, it can be used to create a logline after you write to help give you what to say when someone asks, “what’s it about?”
Teachers/Parents – this is a great little tool for students to use that will help them focus the story they are writing. You can encompass the major parts of the story, so when evaluating for any editing and rewriting, it helps keep the story from going off the rails.

Any feed back on it will help me to refine and improve it. If you are a teacher or homeschool parent that uses it, let me know some of the loglines your kids come up with. I’d love that.
